Nainital Greens — Problem Solving Canvas
Nainital Greens exists to convert Himalayan agriculture from low-income subsistence farming into a demand driven, diversified livelihood system though food and wellness product
1️⃣ Generating Demand
• High-value herbs, flowers, and wellness crops exist, but structured demand does not
• Farmers produce → no assured buyer / price volatility
• Urban consumers want wellness → no trusted hill-origin brand
Gap: Demand and supply don’t meet in a credible way.
⸻
2️⃣ Farmers’ Income
• Current hill agriculture = low margins + high risk
• Middlemen capture value, farmers remain price takers
• Seasonal income → migration pressure
Problem: Farming does not provide predictable, dignified income.
⸻
3️⃣ Crop Diversification
• Over-reliance on cereals and low-value crops
• Climate stress makes monocropping risky
• Farmers lack guidance on what to grow for the market
Problem: No incentive or support to shift toward high-value, climate-appropriate crops.
⸻
4️⃣ Livelihood Generation
• Limited non-farm rural jobs (processing, grading, packaging)
• Youth migrate due to lack of local opportunities
• Women’s participation remains underutilized
Problem: Value addition does not happen at the source
⸻
5️⃣ Food & Wellness Products
• Wellness market is growing fast, but:
• Products lack traceability
• Raw material sourcing is opaque
• Hill produce loses identity after aggregation
Problem: Consumers pay for “wellness” without knowing who benefits.
